A natural porous stone formed from fossilised algae. It is full of microscopic holes, which is why it pulls water in on contact and then lets it evaporate back out.
It is designed to dry itself out, which is exactly what stops mould forming. Let it air out and wipe it down now and then, and it stays clean.
The notch on the long edge is cut to slide in around a standard faucet base. Measure the strip behind your tap before ordering if your sink is unusually shallow.
Wipe it with a damp cloth. If it ever starts absorbing more slowly, leave it to air out in the sun for a few hours and it works like new.
